Training

I grew up teaching my Dad how to speak English, I was one of the youngest team leaders at Reuters and non native speaking professionals would often come to me if they were nervous about giving a presentation at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, younger consultants would come to me worried about asking their boss for something at Arthur Andersen or maybe it was their first time meeting clients or stakeholders. I'm approachable.

Communication is my thing and being intentional about your communication is what makes the difference between an inspiring, challenging and rewarding career or that feel of dread when work feels like a drag.

I believe that both internal communication, with your boss, team or experts in house is critical for your credibility. I also see time and time again that those that are brave enough to network, get up on stage or share their insights are the ones that get great opportunities. It's not about showing off or bragging, it is about sharing what you know, showing up as the expert and drawing your line in the sand because if you stand for something you usually know your stuff. 

Corporate life tends to make us blend in, doesn't it? If you are not a yes person, if you are determined to create your own career then it starts with communication and leadership training.

Coaching

Coaching for me is my happy place as I hate to compromise.

The great thing about working with someone 'one to one' is being able to focus all of your attention on one person and their one big problem.

I have always been one of those people who is approached for advice and I always used to ask them questions first. Admittedly, some found this frustrating at first and just wanted to be told what to do. But most of them lean into the questions and it always gives me butterflies when they have that eureka moment and come up with the answer on their own. Gold.

I didn't realise that this was coaching until I was older, which is when I decided to really master this skill so I have been an ICF (International Coaching Federation) coach since 2020 and am coaching mostly overlooked experts and leaders of all levels and board members - usually in tech, engineering or manufacturing.

I prefer if at all possible to take my coaching clients outdoors. It's difficult to remain stuck on a problem if your body is in motion and you are taking in plenty of oxygen - some rays of sunshine are a bonus. I walk and talk in person here in Cambridge or virtually by phone with earbuds. For many of my clients this is the only time they really do any exercise or get any fresh air, so it is a perfect combination of coaching and exercise with a healthy dose of accountability, motivation and feedback. 

Coco's Dummy Runs are how my clients prepare for a specific (often career critical) conversations (performance review, important meeting, presentation, pitch, conflict discussion with one of your staff or colleagues). When your performance could make the difference between being respected and noticed or ignored and tolerated, these dummy runs provide a healthy dose of confidence in a safe space prior to the real thing in front of bosses and colleagues or clients and stakeholders.

It's not just what you say, it is how you say it.

We also look at things like the visuals, your outfit, your posture and how you get your audience engaged, emotionally involved and tone of voice, humour and much more. intentional communication is complex but we deal with one element at a time.

I push my coachees to push themselves, they often find themselves making decisions based on asking questions that I have asked them before and it is this self sufficiency that I love about coaching most. 

Consultancy

Realistically speaking you cannot expect a transition through training and coaching alone.
It would be easier if that was the case but the reality is that you need to look more carefully at the corporate culture as a whole if you are to introduce lasting change.

Consultancy through myself and other experts in HR and communication are what makes the training and coaching stick.

We measure everything and it is with these metrics - qualitative and quantitative that you can see if we are making progress or not. If you are not prepared to measure and be transparent about that they we are not prepared to help you.

Every consultancy package includes training and/or coaching for senior leaders and board members. Consultancy in isolation is a rip-off.

Speaking

I decided to learn the art of speaking after too many unbelievably dull speeches in my corporate life in London. Why would you submit your staff to such dribble? Oh and believe me CEOs are often the worst, especially at social events like the summer party or Christmas speeches. 

Speaking is like driving, there are a lot of moving parts. You need to gauge the emotions in the room, maintain eye contact, remember your words, engage your audience, provide the right balance of ethos, logos and pathos, answer any questions with personality and precision and of course make sure that you are a pleasure to work with.

At least with driving you get to a point where you can get from A to B without really thinking about it. That's not the case with giving speeches, it is still exhilarating and sometime nervewrecking, even if the audience don't notice. Every speech gives you an opportunity to get even better, for me it's all about connecting with my audience.

Having won speaking contests in both English and German, I was invited to become a TEDx coach, which I love. 

I don't speak at many conferences, but my first was Elearning Day in Hamburg in 2001 and the most recent was Online Educa in Berlin in 2024.
